Cold assist start up not working...

I've had the car for about a year now and the cold assist has only worked like 3 times on it... where it goes up to 3k then down as the car warms up, i'm wondering why this only works SOMETIMES... it scared me when i turned on the car last night and i thought to myself, oh shoot! The throttle is stuck, then i remembered from my previous rx7 that its supposed to do this!

88Turbo II

Any ideas would be great! Thanks
Evan

There is an electronic valve that attaches to the manifold. On the NA, air that feeds the BAC valve is also shared with the accelerated warmup system valve (AWS valve). The valve is, most likely, gunked up or siezed over the years.
To get it working again you'll have to take it off and clean it out, however, I and alot of people here would recommend just removing it completley. The 3k startup is bad for a cold engine and only assists the catalatyc converter for emissions purposes.
Take it out, plug the lines that went to it and call it a day.

If your not sure where it is, check the FSM turbo documents. I think its in the intake or emissions chapter.

So you would advise taking out the cold start right? How bad is it for a cold engine??
