Cold Air Hood Scoop?

Has anyone thought of or seen a setup of replacing the tmic with a air filter then to the turbo? Say remove the intercooler, keep the top part of it, stick a stock like K&N filter under the the hood scoop, then make some sorta box for it?

that would be like ram air which is worthless with a turbo engine, because the turbo sucks air in. Now a box like that on an N/A wouldn't be too bad.

Ahhh but a Turbo-hood cold-air intake for a NA...now that would be interesting

Hey, I wouldn't want it for the ram air, i want it for the cold air! It would be usefull for N/A's too, so it could be universal.

I grafted a vent into my n/a hood directly above the air filter. It'll be ram/cold air when I get around to building the box under it.

Mazda actually said the hood scoop was a bad desgin becuase not that much air actually got to it. most of it goes over the scoop, you mihgt wanna think about that

it has a very bad profile considering the dynamics of the air that high up on the hood. They probably feared causing too much drag from making it stand out more into the air stream.

I have no idea if I'll get much ram air effect out of mine. I do know that the air won't be any lower than atmospheric pressure and will be as fresh as you could ask for up there....
