Cold Air Box Pics
Cold Air Box Pics
These are some pictures I finally got together of my different air boxes. They go from first to last. The second pic shows how it recieves air because I have no FTP lenses. The last pics shows how it is currently set up. I will be installing a headlight duct soon unless I feel like putting one in the hood right over the air box. Either way, I hope you enjoy.

sweet! that's exactly how i did mine {many small holes drilled in rad/fender support is much easier than cutting one big one !! } but i havnt done the box part yet.....how did you determine the exact line to cut the top edges to mate closely with the hood?
The metal and cutters I purchased from lowes. They have a section where its just sheets of metal maybe a couple feet by couple of feet. I always use a cardboard template to get the shape perfect and then transfer it to metal. I think I'm gonna fashion a homemade break here pretty soon so I can get perfect cuts and ****. If you get the thinner metal you can score it with a razor knife and then bend it back and forth to break it but the **** I got is pretty thick so I have to use the snips. I've made a radiator panel and stuff too which I might incorporate into the stock air box feed. I'm going to Vmount pretty soon so I doubt I'd be using it. I should make it and then sell it for dirt cheap. If you have any questions let me know. I don't have a lot of metal working tools but I know how to use the stuff I've got simply because of imagination. The first box I made was riveted together. I'll be making the headlight duct myself as well, and I think I'm gonna get a cheapo thermometer to measure before and after cause I don't know of anyone thats done that yet. If you look in the suspension section you can see my "custom" brake ducts haha. But hell, it gets the job done better than stock...

Oh and I bought the foam from there too. It goes around like A/C units and stuff. I split it about a quarter of the way deep right down the middle and filled the groove with caulk or epoxy or whatever you want. And then just slid it down over the edge of the metal and let something sit on it with some weight.

I noticed about 40F afm temp difference on the rtek after install, even though the bottom is still open, not completely sealed off
edit: oops giant pic

What did you line the inside of the box with? I was planning on using small diameter PVC pip insulation (the black foam stuff with a hollow center) around the top to seal against the hood.
Also, this may be a stupid question, but what do you use to make the rivets? I'm kinda clueless on this stuff, sorry.

You need a rivet gun. It has a handle on it like a pair of pliers or vice grips. And a little pack of rivets. You can probably look it up on wikepedia or how stuff works to get a good idea before you can actually buy the stuff. The inside is lined with bubble wrap type insulation that I also got from lowes. I will have something on the outside before long to reflect the heat. I'm pretty sure it actually seals with the hood although my hood is kinda fucked up right now. It will be all good when I can afford new fenders and straighten the front out a little.
