Question cold air box?

what are these "cold air boxes" i see in pictures? does it really help that much? did you make them yourselves? if so, what are some dimensions for it.
how much do they really help?

Hey, Cold air boxes keep the intake temps down which only helps the engine and adds hp. Remeber colder air is denser and has more oxygen molecules so this is why you get more power. Now as far as the ones you see on this forum most of them are made by the owners out of home depot style products. They help GREATLY. ITs an extremly important mod and is fairly basic. Its essential because our cars run hotter than normal piston engines so we need the coolest intake temps we can get. ok, i just made what has to be the shitiest cold air intake box ive ever seen. its so pitiful and half ***. i did it with sheet metal and aluminum foil tape. i can get pictures if it makes everyone feel good inside. you know.
