Unhappy Coils

I have a 12A motor which I am having a problem with no power on acceleration. I dropped the exhaust at the manifold thinking it was blocked somewhere. It was not. I checked the coils, it seems like one works and the other does not. I am new with these rotarys. Any answers for me

Wrong forum there, you want to post in the 1st gen section, this is the 2nd generation section. Unless you have a 12A in a 2nd gen.

First, you need to say which coil isn't firing.

Odds are one of the ignitors on the side of the distributor is not working. You can pick them up from the dealership for 125, or a junkyard for 1. Seriously.

To check them, just swap them and see if you get spark on the opposite coil. If you do, then you've just identified which ignitor isn't sending the signal to the coil. Also check the plug like wire that goes from the coil not sending the signal to the distributor.

josepi..............when i pull individual coil wires off i see sperk jumping from inside coil to outside terminals with coil wire clear away from coil. Does this mean coil is working and then go see if ignitor is working. How do i check ignitor?

If your getting spark from a coil when trying to crank, then the coil is good.

If your not getting any spark from a certain coil, DO remove the distributor cap and rotor and inspect the condition of those. If you haven't replaced those in a while, it'd be a good time, and it's not that expensive.

If your tach isn't working, then most likely your trailing coil isn't firing. If your tach is working, then your leading coil isn't firing.

If both coils are firing but your not getting anything at the plugs, replace the plug wires/cap/rotor.
