code #2 and #9

finally got to pull these two codes off the CEL for the 90 n/a. So water thermosensor and NE pick-up coil off the TPS... So with this I wanted to know if this will cause the excessive smoking in the morning and hard starts. When it is cold the car has an intermittent cel and cuts out on throttle as in the car bogs out at around 2-3 seconds and then goes like a bat out of hell. Anybody else have any experiences like this. I searched it and didn't find exactly what I am looking for thanks.

A bad thermosensor will definitely cause poor cold running, as the ECU defaults to an engine-warm setting so that it runs okay most of the time.

Any time you have an error code you should go to the Self-Diagnosis section in the FSM Fuel Systems chapter and follow the instructions for the code(s).

Download FSM, go to Fuel Emissions for Turbo or Non-turbo, depending what you have.

Navigate from there. Read the whole thing if you have to.

Small problem here. A nine deals with the ne signal from the CAS. If this wire/s are broken, the car won't start and/or run. Does your engine start and run? IF so, the code nine sucks and is incorrect.

A 9 is the water thermosensor and the 2 is the ne pick up coil TPS. The whole thing is how to get the and get to the "FSM"...

This info is easily found in the Factory Service Manual. If you don't have the FSM, click here and download it in PDF format for free. You need the Fuel Systems chapter for this, but you should download the others and learn more about your car.

No, code #2 is the Ne signal from the crank angle sensor. The engine won't run if you get this code.

Oh. I seem to be reading comprehension challanged. Yep, 2 is CAS ne signal and 9 water thermosensor and TPS either a 12 or 18.

Did this fix the problem?

The code doesn't necessarily mean the sensor is bad, it means the ECU isn't seeing a valid signal. That could be a bad sensor, loose or dirty connector, broken wire, etc. Since you had one to swap in it's no big deal, but it's wiser to spend time finding out what the actual problem is rather than spending money on parts that may be fine. Just a little FYI for the future.

I know what your saying I go to school for that ****. But I did have one and with all the miles the car has(180.000) I figured f'it, it's easy to get to. Now the other code is gone too. No more bogging and CEL. What a pain in my ace. Now the excessive smoke in the morning is what I'm moving on to take care of.

will it matter if the wires for the sensor are crossed? i ask because i thought it was wasnt connected to the ecu. then after checking continuity from ecu it was ok. and i checked the reading at sensor the reading at ecu pins(same again). and sensor is in range(checked last week.will recheck to be 100% sure)

added:i cut wires at sensor to rewire an extra foot in between the sensor wires to ecu , to fix a previous wire repair (connectors falling apart)

after checking all that i NOW get the check engine light
