There was a shop making custom cradles to bolt '03+ cobra IRS rear ends into 3rd gens, but Ive never seen it done for a FC. This was mostly used by the V8 swap guys, to be able to hold all the extra torque. Honestly, The turbo rear ends are fairly stout, and there are alot of guys out there pushing ~500HP , and running 10 second 1/4 times, without much of a problem. I see that you started with a GXL for your car, so I assume you are still running the N/A 7" rear end. I would suggest just swapping to a turbo2 rear end if you are looking for something stronger. You will need the rear end and axles, as well as have your driveshaft re-flanged, as the bolt pattern for the pinion gear flange is a bit different.

Not to worried about the TII rear not taking the power. Most of the v8 swap guys are in the same boat as me. The large v8's with th350 or like trans just can't get down the quarter without running out of gear. I need a 2.73 or lower in the rear to get down the quarter mile in 3rd gear. I'm hitting OD at half track now. It's really hard on things. Do you know the company that was doing these swaps?
How different is the FD rear? Aren't they pretty much the same?
Thanks

Try doing a search in the 3rd gen forum, and from user Jimlab . You should find something. The 3rd gen rear end internally is about identical to that of a Turbo2, but the mounting is extremely different. 3rd gens use a powerplant frame setup that the rear end is attached to as well. If youve ever looked at a miata rear end, it is similar in setup to that.
