Clutches, Flywheels and all the tranny stuff

Whats up everyone, last year i discovered that my car *might* have the wrong flywheel on it due to a slight vibration high in the RPM.. I bought the car from a guy that had got the engine rebuilt, but he installed it himself so he put a flywheel on it... Soon i will be taking out the transmission and checking the numbers on the flywheel! So my question to you is are all of the rx7 turbo cluthes the same? Will an Rx7 turbo aftermarket clutch fit an s4 and fit an s5 flywheel as well?

Any input is appreciated,
Thanks
Evan

yes, and no... the S5 Turbo clutches are 235mm while s4 Turbo ones are 240mm, in addition the throw out bearings are also different.

Maybe you can help me Icemark..

When i got the car i thought it was all good.. until i went to go get the s-afc tuned.. Then the owner said there was a vibration high in the RPM... So he said that the flywheel might be of an s5.. So i called the engine builder, and he recalls it being all s4 parts and that the flywheel might be an s5... because the previous owner put the motor in and installed his own flywheel but even he cannot recall! Does this mean that the centreforce stage 2 clutch can fit both s4 and s5 flywheels? I already bought s4 throw out bearing and pilot bearing so i am hoping just the s5 flywheel needs to be swapped out.. and thats it..

I guess the only way to know is to rip out the tranny and take a look at the numbers!

Yes, any clutch that will fit a S5 will also fit on a S4 with the S4 throw out bearing. I think Pacing beat or Mazdatrix (one of those LA shops) also swaps the other way (using a S4 clutch on a S5 flywheel.

For high speed vibration, I would also be looking at a bad driveshaft...but that would go away with the clutch in, or the car in neutral.
