Clutch slip + disengagement prob.
I need a second opinion to see if my diagnosis is correct or not.
My stock clutch has been giving me problems lately on my 87TII. It's probably getting into the fairly high milage zone, but alot is highway and soft driving. I would like some 2nd opinions before investing time and money into peices that may not need to be replaced. Anyways here's the symptoms.
*Definiate disengagement problem. If I put the car in 1st and try to crank, it jerks the car forward a once or twice, then starts. Also, if I start the car in neutral, fairly often it wont go into any gear, and takes some coaxing. However, once I get it into gear after starting, getting into 1st after a stop is no problem. The car also shifts relatively smooth 1st-5th.
*Clutch pedal or one of the cylinders is squeaking. I'm not sure if they're broken (hence this thread) but neither cylinder nor hose is leaking any fluid.
*Clutch slips in 2nd-5th. At WOT w/ foot off the clutch, the car will build boost, the clutch will slip and the engine will rap to ~5k and sit there for 1-2sec, then come back down to where it should be. I dont know if that makes sense. ie. if I hold 75% throttle, it will slip for a bit, then the rpms will drop back to where they should be and the car will accelerate like normal.
Those are the symptoms. I've checked the clutch pedal and it is close to within spec. I'm just waiting on the WD40 to break the lock nuts loose so I can make some minor adjustments. I checked but did not disassemble both cylinders and the hose for leaks, none were found. I also checked the slave cylinder to make sure that it was moving, it was but I couldnt find an exact measurement to make sure it was moving far enough. I also made sure of the dumb things ie. clutch fluid, depressing the pedal fully ect. After a bit of testing, a good friend of mine and I guessed that the slave isn't moving far enough forward, and that a master/slave rebuild was in order.
Any thoughts would be helpful,
Troy

Sounds to me like a worn clutch. As well, you may need to rebuild, or buy a new Clutch/ and Slave cylinder. You can always pull both parts out and inspect them. Take them apart, and check for debrit. I rebuilt mine, but the cylinders where nice and smooth. If yours are not smooth, buy new ones. If you do replace you clutch, I would also recomend buying new tranny seals, front and rear, and a new pilot berring, and throw out berring.
""if I start the car in neutral, fairly often it wont go into any gear, and takes some coaxing.""
^^ sounds like a pilot berring, or your cylinders.
""Clutch slips in 2nd-5th. At WOT w/ foot off the clutch, the car will build boost, the clutch will slip and the engine will rap to ~5k"""
^^ that sounds like a worn clutch.
Hope that helps,
Chris

Hmm, well can't win em all I guess. I had planned on changing clutch/pp and goodies anyways, stock clutch just won't cut it for what I have in mind. Looks like I'll just have to bump clutch change higher on the to-do list.
