Clutch slave question ~ leaky new slave?

Just got the tranny back and installed.
New clutch disc, new pilot bearing and seal. New throwout bearing, used pressure plate. New clutch master, new clutch slave, new stainless steel clutch line.

The new clutch slave didn't come with a rod. I removed the dust cap, and installed the old rod into it and reinstalled the dust cap. After bleeding the clutch, there is fluid inside the dust cap!? I'm guessing that this isn't normal?? Is the new clutch slave defective?

EDIT: there is no clutch pedal pressure either, goes straight to the floor and stays there.

Its from atkins, so I'll plan on calling monday.

Any ideas guys?

If it stays on the floor, that means that the fluid isn't receiving return pressure from the slave.

When you put the rod in, did you check to see if there were any seals/gaskets/etc you need?
I assume you bled it properly and didn't leave the bleeder open?

well, I don't know then. There has to be something to seal the rod into the bore, otherwise the whole thing won't work as you have no doubt figured out. I'll check my old slave (it disengaged but would not fully engage).

my guess is the dust boot is what seals the rod into the bore. the portion of the boot that connects to the cylinder should seal around the rod. at least, that's what I could discern from my old one.

atkins mentioned fluid in the dust cap could be caused by a bad master cyl. mines new though...
