Clutch Replacement

Here's the story: I started my RX-7 up and went to put it in gear, the clutch felt very unusual pushing in, when I was letting it back out it felt like it was catching on something and something finally broke loose and it came all the way out. So basically my clutch is stuck fully engaged. When the car is off I am able to change gears but the clutch can't be disengaged. Just curious as to what the likely problem is and if dropping the transmission is the easiest way to replace a clutch.
Thanks.

Wow, bent or broken clutch fork i guess?

And yes, you must remove the transmission for that.
