Clutch problem

I'm having a problem with my 1986 GXL. What is happening is when I engage the clutch, I hear a terrible squeal and the car stalls. As far as I know the clutch is OEM.

Any ideas?

Well I finally took the car in and the guy told me it was the release bearing, so I'm having the clutch and bearings replaced.
