clutch pedal.

i was checking the free play on the clutch pedal because i am having trouble shifting into gears sometimes. there is a little more free play then spec indicates but when pressed in it does disengage the tranny.

does that mean it is ok or does the clutch pedal have to be pressed in a little more after disengaging with the tranny? do you think this is the reason why im having hard shifting issues?

the only purpose of the clutch is to disengage the tranny so when you rev you move dont correct? that means if i rev the car with the clutch pedal in and the car doesnt move its ok right?

i am trying to eliminate this from the check list to fix the hard shifting issue. i dont want to mess with it if i dont have to, it just might cause more problems. next is to change the clutch fuid. its on the low mark but it still builds pressure. after that its the tranny fuid if that doesnt fix it.

any help appreciated. thanks

Could possibly be a throw out bearing/pilot issue. Does it make weird sounds while the clutch is up in neutral.

If not, than more than likely it is a syncro issue. Is it gear specific? Have you tried speed match shifting to see if that helps?

a throw out baearing would make it hard to shift? it usually happens shifting to second in low rpms. speed match shifting does helps.

i wanted to make sure my clutch pedal was doing what its suppose to do, which is to disengage the clutch from the tranny. i thought even though it is disengaging, it still wasnt working properly. like the clutch pedal isnt being pushed in enough to activate some other mechanism that helps shifting other then the clutch from the tranny. hope im being clear.

to make it easier, how do i know my clutch pedal is working properly? when i rev the engine with the clutch pedal in and the car doesnt move? or does it do something else besides just disengaging the clutch from the tranny? thanks

you want about a half an inch of free play at the top of the pedal.
check the hydraulics and make sure there are no leaks

it kind of sounds like your input shaft may have welded its self to the flywheel

check the hydraulics first, then you can try to adjust the pedal. if that doesn't do it you may need to pull the trans

Get someone to push in the clutch, and you can watch the slave cylinder. If it is pushing the fork, then yes your pedal is working properly

You may need to bleed your clutch if it's only engaging at the bottom of the pedal movement. It's easy to do, but you need two people, one to operate the pedal and the other to operate the bleeder on the slave.
