Clutch making noise
Was eyeballing a new ride. (87 base) The clutch was making noises when not depressed (the noise depressed me) As soon as you apply the clutch the noise stops.
So was wondering... (in Canada) what the going rate is to install a new clutch? (just in case that is what needs to be done)
Oh and the wipers aren't working....might it require a new motor? prices would help as I would like to know up front what my base repairs might cost.
Thx

You may be hearing normal tranny gear noise.
Check under the shift boot for torn or worn out rubber heat & noise insulation parts.
The wiper switch has some dinky relays inside that wear out every 10 years.
You can fix or replace or have it repaired.

Sure,
This is a noise I never had with my 86 GXL...hrumph! But I will totally take it into consideration..and have a look see.
The wiper things is basically a non issue as I don't really see it being a big repair bill...thx

To put it another way:
There should be nothing to make noise from the clutch when the pedal is released.
Everything is clamped together & spinning at the same speed, and the throwout bearing is unloaded.
In the tranny, the input shaft & the countershaft are spinning.
Check with "icemark" on the wiper switch.

Trannys that are low on fluid can make one hell of a racket when in neutral.. the bell housing amplifies every little noise. Ever tap it with a wrench??
Check for a leaky rear seal, or oil all over the bottom, i've seen trannys leak right through the case seams.
I have a Mazdatrix short shifter, and, apparently, my car is a "rattler" that even seems to be amplified by the bell housing.
As for your clutch... if you can turn a wrench, you can put the clutch in if you want to save yourself the dough, its pretty easy.
