Clutch Install Prices/Clutch Questions?

I'm just wondering first of all, how much it would take to install a clutch on average since its not something I have any idea how to do or want to risk trying myself. Also I was wondering if one of these ACT 4-Puck clutches comes with everything needed to replace the old clutch or if I needed to add any additional things to it? Lastly, whats the break-in period of these clutches? I remember hearing 1k miles, is this correct? Thanks.

Well..... First... I wouldn't reccoment the 4 puck clutch for a street car.... ESPECIALLY if you are trying to sell it....

Second.... THe ACT kits come with everything.... Clutch, Pressure plate and throwout bearing, crappy alignment tool... but, you might want to replace the throwout bearing at that time as well...

Third... If you MUST get a puck clutch.. get the 6-puck with a sprung hub

Fourth... If you get the Extreme Clutch... you might want to get a Stainless Steel Clutch line too.... makes the clutch work better, belive me..

Also... If your flywheel is in need of resurfacing... you will be MOST Unhappy with the Puck clutches.. can you say... CHATTER.... puck clutches also will wear the flywheel surface out MUCH faster than a disk.

Finally.. Installing the clutch aint all that bad, it'll take a few hours though, but man,,,, if i were you... i'd really consider putting the ACT XT Street Strip Disc in that thing instead of a 4-puck.. every ricer that showes up to drive it is going to stall the bitch out befeor they get it out of your driveway.....
Don't klnow about breakin on a puck clutch...

Well thats good to know, I was basically looking at that one because it was the cheapest and clutches are something that have escaped my knowledge base altogether. The street/strip one is only like $30 more so I guess i'll go with that one. Anyone care to explain the differences between puck clutches and everything else? I know how clutches work and why and all, but not the seperate components and whatnot. If I just get the street/strip clutch will there be anything I should replace/get worked on?

Very good info above.
In my opinion stay away from the puck disc. As stated, some do not have a spring center to absorb some of the shock, vibration, but do they cause an abrupt engagement. They love the heat. The plate can be virtually destroyed and the puck disc will hold, slip, hold. In so doing they do have a tendency to cause flywheel cracking, regardless of flywheel type.
Go with the normal ACT disc and pressure plate. You'll be happy as will anyone that eventually buys the car.
Just replace the basics, disc, pressure plate, t/o bearing, pilot bearing. Make certain front seal in trans not leaking, and be cautious as not to let the trans "hang" free with the shaft in the disc as it can, not normally though, cause a disc distortion.
Not a big job, but the exhaust has got to come down, and that trans is heavy, at least for this old guy.

I did that job with some help from my son's youg 17 year old muscles. Helps to have a helper, for sure, otherwise not a huge deal.
