Clunk clunk!

Does anyone know what would cause a 'clunk clunk' noise when downshifting from 2nd to 1st gear in a 1987 Turbo II?

The rest of the transmission doesn't seem to make any noise, but just shifting from 2nd to 1st

sorry, I'm an extreme beginner, differential mount? Would that be the thing that mounts the differential to the chassis?

The front differential mount handles most of the torque on the axle assembly:

The shop manual is on-line.
I have a link in my sig.
