Vibrations do it. Mine will flutter on and off when my radio is turned up. Pull off the surround piece. Use a flat screwdriver and pull up from the front. Next, take out the two small screws holding the cluster in place. Next, remove the wire connectors from the back of the cluster. Resolder the broken connection, it will be obvious. Put it all back in. The on again, off again clock syndrome happens to all of us.

Cool

Had a vaguely similar problem just this week: electrical equipement would flicker when I hit a bump or a hole. Checked every relay, fuse, connection etc and all was -visibly- good. Took a can of "electrical contact" spray, took out every relay and fuse, sprayed and pushed everything back firmly. No more problems....

The doors/Dome light circuit uses the same fuse as the clock, so if you are having problems there make sure the room fuse is in place and good first and formost.

A bad or removed room fuse will result in strange operation of the clock as it back feeds the circuit when the door is open.
