Cleaning 5/6 port sleeves

I am planning on cleaning my S5 5/6 port sleeves since I'm doing a rebuild, and I found several post in the archives. But my question is after they are cleaned, do I need to coat the exterior of the sleeves with oil, moly grease, etc., before re-installation so they can rotate easily? I never saw lubricating mentioned (to include the FSM). Thanks.

if anything something thin like marvel mystery oil. i would not advise grease because something more permanent is also more likely to collect foreign materials like dirt and begin to stick prematurely. the heat from the engine and the fuel washing away the oil in the grease will also tend to make it more pasty, sticky, tough to move, etc.

Sounds good. It just didn't sound right putting them in dry for some reason.

I simply sanded the outsides of them and the insides of the ports with a high-grit paper, put them back in dry, and they rotate as easy as can be.

Ok, man, these sleeves are solid gunk!! It'll take some work to clean because you can't even see the pins. I'll soak them for a few days.

I like the dry idea , the few thousand times that they will rotate in the sleeve 1/5 of a turn or so should never cause enough wear to bother anything .. the lubricant has a good chance of just turn to carbon and sludge just from being there in the heat . The bit of oil vapor and so on that goes through the intake should be all that is necessary .. JMO
