I get into this fight often. That is what I hate about ricer hondas all show and no go. The owner has spent all his money on wings hood scoops clear lights body kits and giant tips and nothing has been done to improve performance.

If money is the issue then spend it on the cars performance and don't waste it making it look like a ricer. $200 will get you a header another $200 will get you a presilancer and a big hp gain if you havent done that yet do it first.

I'm not trying to slam you I just don;t understand why people are hell bent on making their car look like something else. If you think that pic of those tail lights looks good I'm scared.

S5 taillight prices

yeah, u said it man!
i went shopping wreckers here in Oz, and was consistently quoted $450-$500AU for a set of those round taillights.

i figured "**** That" i'll try to make a set myself.

i found a site that sells Supra taillights 2nd hand, and was gonna get a body-kit maker to fibreglass them in for me, would work out to be about the same amount as the stock S5 ones, and would be unique as well as looking cool.

if the S5 ones were reasonably priced, i'd just buy a set like every other monkey, but i guess the scottish in me is holding me back.

"I cannae do it man!"

Yo,

Here's what I had to say about "Altezza's" awhile back:

Clear tail lights were pioneered by the Toyota Altezza. That's why clear tail lights are often known as "Altezza's". Check the title of the this post. The clear tail light concept was a fresh and new departure for the Altezza.

But once that stylistic element has been done, and is associated with a specific car, that's it. It's Been Done. And it was done, by the Altezza. Anyone else that uses clear tail lights on their vehicle is simply copying that VERY specific style. A trademark style. Of a very specific vehicle. Which is NOT your car. Do you understand what I'm trying to say?

Civic with giant hoop wing, and giant tip: Wannabe Supra.

Prelude with clear tail lights: Wannabe Altezza.

CRX with fender gills: Wannabe Z3.

That clear copying of obvious styling cues from other, usually much more expensive, more capable vehicles strikes many as blatant automotive plagiarism. I happen to be one of those people.

New stuff:

I totally agree with Koko. This biting of other car's styles is totally alien to me. I drive a Mazda RX-7, which has it's own style. What's with all this, "Put Supra tailights on!" I think the 1989-1991 are by far the COOLEST factory tailights ever. Do what you have to do, but put THOSE on your car.

Old stuff:

I'm not saying people /shouldn't/ be allowed to stick Altezza clear tailights, a Supra giant wing, or Z3 fender gills on their RX-7's, just for /me/, it makes the car looks like a SupRraXezza 3. *grin* If that's the look you're going for, more power to you. I happen to take pride in my Mazda roots and styling elements that MAZDA came up with. Not Toyota or BMW. That make any sense?

Anyways, I'm done recycling my old text.

NE1 that denies the major aesthetic element in the automotive hobby in which we are all engaged is suffering from a serious case of denial. i want the car i drive to look nice, and have at least a molecule of unique character. what's the ******* point of driving around "yet another" stock fugly 2nd gen? what's the point of doing the same set of mods to my 2nd gen, in the same order, that everyone else does? like some kinda busted robot...**** all that.

i have *never* seen an FC with just plain round taillights like a corvette,...just round lights set into a the panels which are painted the colour of the car. only that picture of that ******* ugly FC that psychodad emailed me, that is it, and that looks *****! i DON'T want altezza lights, i DON'T want to steal the style of another car, i just want nice looking round ******* taillights, and not the epilepsy inducing square-jumble taillights that the S4 was born with. They look ******* ****. the S5 round lights are OK, and quite acceptable, but i'd just like something that makes the car look a little more modern. those round S5 lights *look* like they are from the '80's....

it is only money,...if u don't spend it on yourself to make yourself happy, then the Universe will find some way to extract it from you anyhow....like with a speeding fine or something.

my life is about making *me* happy, so if *i* want round taillights like a corvette, then i will get them. **** altossa and his clear condom taillights or whatever, i'm not trying to adhere to some ricer agenda, i just want MY car to look sweet whilst having a unique angle to it. That's it.

having said all that though, i'm getting S5 round taillights next week for my car :-)

Hey Ive got a unique idea for your FC's Tail lights...you could remove the ones you already have, get taillights off a wrecked Supra in a junkyard, buy a buch of filler and bondo, take the bulbs out of the FC lights as well as the ones from the Supra...put the bulbs from the FC in the supra tail lights (if they dont fit use tape) than youd have rxsupra tallights. next use all that bondo and filler to somehow stick those taillights on the back of your rx7 (after all they have FC bulbs in them) now paint whatever you dont want showing the color of your choice. slap on a few "r" badges and a powered by MAZDA shoulder strap and youll be good to go!
JESUS CHRIST theyre just tail lights. I think we should be more worried about ways to keep the other guys staring at our stock FC taillights than ways to make them pretty. not meant to offend...just my 2 cents

How about this interior for being different:

Factory Parts!!!!!!!!!!

Each to his own. I like it this way, others may not. I say the same for the exterior.

That is though, in my opinion, a damn ugly car pictured in this thread.

yes, i hate rice too. i hate modding a cars exterior w/o improving the mechanical performance. for instance, Mother's import auto shows are a ****** JOKE. some of you have seen them, its on Speedvision.

i see Honda's and Saturns, but no toyotas, or mazdas or anything else. not to mention, these hondas roll on homie chromie rims that belong on an 84 cadillac DEville, strait from the hood. and they have bass boat paint jobs, custom interior, chromed engine accessories, air bag suspensions, body kits and wings. but NO GODAMN PERFORMANCE MODS AT ALL!!!!! i swear to god, it pissed me off to no end. to see morons like these get TV covereage when they have cars that would get them laffed out of most clubs. i mean, jesus christ, EVERY car featured on the episode i saw, was a AUTOMATIC!!! WTF.

anywho, i havent put any money into my exterior mods, i havent even bought Wheels. the only money i spent was for stickers, and new tail lights. the stickers advertise what type of parts im runnin, and the tail lights are the 86-88 ones, to replace my Original lights which were broken. trust me, i LOOKED for 89+ lights, and found no good deals. i even had my friend in Japan look for me. all i found were ebay auctions, where the reserve was set at $250. i said **** that.

i think we are all in agreement that our cars should be know for what it is, not for what OTHER cars are. and we also should spend Money to GO FAST before we spend money to LOOK FAST.

if you spend money on those 'GTR' tail lights, you spend money to LOOK GAY!

guys, if you got 86-88 tail lights, go to your hobby store, and pick up a can of "finish line" paint, its called Window tint. people use it to paint the windows on lexan-body RC cars black, but you can still see light shine thru it. i suggest you paint your tail lights w/ this liquid window tint. but, etch the surface so that the paint adheres to it. DONT sand off your 'Koito' and DOT #s, thats what proves you are street legal. now, you have blacked out tail lights, and its awesome, especialy if you got a black car. i would suggest that you either leave it ALL black, or do a 10AE style, and paint the black housing to match your car, and leave the lenses Blacked out. ill try to get pics of my altered lights up so you can see wha tim talkin about.

*done ranting*

My buddy in Japan put a set of 4th gen Supra taillights on his 180SX. No bondo or fiberglass, all metal. Even the Toyota key works the back hatch. High quality job. It looks great. At first I was put off by this project but when I finally had the chance to see it in person I understood what he did completely. I'm not a big fan of messing around with the looks of one's car. However, he took these lights and made something all his own. It looks so seamless you'd think it was from the factory that way. Now simply buying a set of Altezza lights from NOPI and slapping them on is weak.
To see these taillights: http://www.geocities.com/okinawas13/bad180tailj2.jpg Trust me, this picture does not compare to how much nicer it looks like in person (and this picture is pretty decent).

I personally love the 10 AE lights. Just paint the 86-88 lights the body color. With matching color trim and matching color mirrors, but yes the 89+s are nice.
I think I might just go w/ the AE style

Those Supra tails on the 180 look good! I think I'm going to have to agree with Node on this one...next time my car gets painted, the outlines of the tail lights will be painted body color...the rest of the trim already is.

Those pictures aren't coming up because this thread is almost three years old.

whatever man

chris
i agree with chris completely ... if S5 tails were like 50 bucks i might consider buying a pair ... but for 200+ wtf is the point?!? the stock lights work just as well and u dont have the S5 wannabe look, personaly the more i see S5 tails the more i like my S4 ones anyways

Perry -- if you want ur car to look unique then i wouldnt consider getting tails that are "round taillights like a corvette" cause of course everyone knows what corvette tails look like
