chopping block
ok, this seems a bit pointless to ask on this site but... I've got an '86 rx-7 n/a w/114k miles on it and a '97 eagle talon turbo w/140k miles on it. I'm in the market for a jeep and one of the cars has got to go. I love the concept of the rotary engine and the car in general is neat but the eagle seems to be a bit easier to get parts for and from what i hear from people on this site might also be a bit more reliable than the rx-7 (going by the many issues i have read about it flooding easily and whatnot). So getting down to brass taxes; is the rx-7 a reliable, userfriendly car or simply a collector piece for weekend driving? Please put aside possible biased feelings and give your honest opinions if you would. thx

from what i've read over the years, DSMs arent exactly reliable (and after knowing 2 people that own/ed them)...its up to you..rx7s have their common problems just like nearly every other 80s and early 90s sports cars...they're old, things decay, electrical connections degrade, etc...Its all down to what you want...if you're selling one for just the space...sell the talon and do a turbo swap on the RX, and then tidy up the rest of the car, and you end up with a decent turbo rx7...i got my Turbo II and it had been taken care of really well, and its turned out to not have any problems so far, other than the 3800rpm hesitation, being very common...other than that the car has been great...i put ~2000 miles on it a month...and i love every mile of it

Wow, one opinion (thankyou btw). You guys afraid to give your honest thoughts on this car? Come on now, some of you spend hours perusing these threads. Give me something to work with here!

I would keep the FC. The turbo car is hard on parts, and the FC parts are a dime a dozen. The turbo car also has more miles. But on the other hand Fc can have there issues with the harness, and the turbo car is easier to make fast. BUT if the turbo is FWD then there is no question, the rx7 must stay. FWD with a turbo kinda is a waste to hop up IMO.
