The Z24 has 150hp. If it's auto you can take him pretty easily. If he's got a manual you should be able to win, but it would be fairly close.

stock for stock you should win by about the front quarter panel with perfect launch and shifts, thats if both of you drive perfectly, he weighs 2800lbs just the car, the 86 weighs 2652 just the car, as he said if its and auto you'll take him fairly easily, but standard would be really close, would depend who can drive better, if you have any mods you'll take him then you can show him what 1.3 litres can really do

i have learned not to underestimate the domestic car market. i have gotten whoomped many at the track by modified domestic compacts. for example i got whoomped by a sunfire gt that ran a low 15/high 14.

not a compact, but take my friends grand prix gt for example. up here in ohio in the middle of the summer we got it running 15.1 with a homemade ram air intake and a little exhaust piping. fastest GTP up here was running about a 15.4+

domestic can be fast.. and sometimes you will make urself look like an ****.. hehe

DUDE, The NA 7 is capable of taking out several US V6's and equivalent.... I beat my friends 3.1 95 cavalier, a V6 NEW mustang, 3.8 Camaro, NEWER maxima etc... BEWARE dont underestimate! His cavalier coulda taken out a V6 stang too. I say GO FOR IT. you SHOULD kick his ***, providing your car runs well. Then you can laugh it up when he got beat by a 1.3 TWO-banger!!! even if you loose "hey, it's only 1.3 liters..."

my buddy's stock 99' cav would whoop my 7, but my 7's an 15 year old auto n/a pos so...
a guy he knows has a 2001 cav that's running 13's. it's also auto, but he's squeezing the juice.
remember anything can be made fast, it's just a matter of preference.

may be something off topic, but why the hell are you racing 3rd at 3500? try droping a gear and you might beat someone.

I was a long runner of a sunfire GT 2.4 dohc and that is the same car as the cav 2.4 with a diff body. The engine trans and all the other sh** are equal. I must say that I loved that car but I saw a rx conv and had to get it instead. The 2.4 will beat you off the start no problem. If he has any mods he could possibly take you overall. I have been few j-body bashes and have seen several modded and rebuilt run 12-13sec quarters. If your car isnt running up to par it could be a beat down on you and your car. If its your friend great you can see how good your car is running. If not make sure your car is running great to save you the embarassment of a 4 banger sport wanna be car kicking you but. I am glad i ditched mine for the rx-7 but they still are snappy and I respect them. Good luck and let me know if you run him to the ground or not. If you want to any info on what they run in the 1/4 mile modded and stock you can always check out the www.j-body.org website.
