Cherry '89 TII 43,000 miles, worth?

Guys,

What would you pay for this:

'89 TII with MOMO leather and all options
1 owner
43,000 miles
Owner claims it is in "showroom" condition, totally cherry
Claims it has been garaged and covered its entire life.

Book value is less than $6000.00 but he's asking A LOT more than tha for it. I was thinking it might be worth $9000.00 if it is in the shape he says it's in. What do you think?

Todd

$6k is fair. $9k is right out. It's still just a stock 80s sports coupe. But in the end, it's worth what people will pay for it - that's capitalism.

Worth? $5000 or so. How much will it go for? More like $7000 prolly. Its all on how much someone is willing to pay.

To some people owning a fc or a rotary is worth that kind of money, to others its not. I myself would pay that kind of money, having a fc has changed my outlook on cars forever.

If it's ultra-low miles, ultra-prestine & OEM original paint, if it's a 1991/1992 TII in mica blue or brave blue, 1990 GTU-S in black or white, it has leather interior, has the OEM hatch cover/luggage cover, has all the options...

Then yes, it's worth $7000+

If it's an import Cabroliet or Savanna convertible TII - then it's worth some serious $$$$

Someone sell me a Cosmo JC Sport 3 rotor with stickshift conversion please for cheap.

Offer him $5500 and likely he will refuse but say "keep in touch!" you never know, I doubt he would get much more than 6 or 7 k. Seems like hes asking too much

Lol. I think FDs are tight as hell. BUT you might as well just buy one with a blown engine and turbos and go full standalone, single large turbo and streetported rebuilt engine. Then you are good to go. But by then you are in about $25k deep.

Which makes me wonder why even the 93 models are still commanding near 20k asking prices. Only once in a blue moon I see it under 13k.

Re: Cherry '89 TII 43,000 miles, worth?

I don't know where some of you guys get your pricing from, but an 89 TII with 43K mi with leather interior in "excellent" condition books for $4,225. Darn right it books for "less than $6,000", lol.
http://www.kbb.com/

Anyway, add and subtract from that $4,225 Blue Book price whatever YOU like or don't like about the car. It may be worth more to you, or it may be worth less to you, but just don't pay what it is worth to the current owner, if you know what I mean.

What is "Momo leather"? Shift boot, shift ****, steering wheel, sport seats, or what?

I'm not up on the S5 model trivia, but I believe that "all of the options" for a TII only included leather seats and a CD player. Anybody else know of other options?

i think thats because there are people out there with no knowledge of rx7s except knowing that they are sports cars. they dont know that the FD's can be "steaming piles of ****" and only know blue book prices and see a pretty car. i've seen alot of FDs being driven around by older looking businessmen types that probably just have the car because its their "fun" car, and they don't know anything else about it except that they always take it to the dealer to get fixed .

KBB says $11,500 for a 93 in fair condition, which should tell some of these businessman to wise up and pay no more than $15k right there. They must've lots of love for the fd to be seeing the garage all the time.
Maybe the fd's sexy curves could get them some, who knows.

43K on a motor is LOW *** MILES. I dont get it, EVERYONE and their mother bitched at me when my 67K engine blew and i was surprised a while back. With all saying **** like "you stupid ****, you never buy a rotary with low miles you are just asking for a blown motor, you are gay" this and that. just spreadin' the love. That thing is way over priced, you'll have mo' problems than its worth its weight in gold.

I think you guys are right and wrong about this one. 9k would be too much for your normal 89-91 t2. But this car sounds to be perfect and with the low miles I would pay that much or more. A car like this is very rare and the price reflects that. Most of you probably are looking for a car in the 3-5k range that will need a little work and for most of you that is great because the parts that need a little work will get replaced with aftermarket parts that will make it more powerful or give it a different look. But I think the type of buyer this car is pointed at is some one who wants a perfect car with low miles to keep perfect with low miles. So in 5 or so years the owner will take it to a meet with other cars and people will come and look and be wowed at the original condition and low miles of the car. Like I said people are looking for different things when looking for cars. If you arent looking for a low mile perfect all original car that could turn into a collectors item then please dont complain about the price. Also when you try to compare cars similar to a car like this it doesnt work. Like a 89 t2 for 5k would probably have over 100k miles and probably not be in near the condition of a car like the one mentioned here. So they cant be compared. And I do know that some of you have found great deals on cars with mods and great condition and will say, well I got my car with all this for less than that. Thats great, but not everybody can be so lucky. I just really hate it when someone puts up a nice car like this for sale and is as rare as this. Then people try to say its value should be equal with cars of higher milage and rougher condition. Another thing that is funny to me is how many of the forum members with 2nd gens talk so highly of theirs cars. They say they are the best cars made, the cars that compair to this would cost 2 or 3 times as much, and these cars are priceless. But when somebody is trying to sell them for a price they dont agree with all the bad things come out. Like its still just an 80's sports car, and thats too much you could buy another car that is better for almost that amount. So in conclusion, I think the car in question is worth at least 9k.

Gotta agree with Trinity RX7, there is something to be said for a low mileage original car, the value will increase as the years go on. I had a '79 GS that I modified and wound up keeping for 15 years. Probably would have been worth more if it was original. My '88 vert is 100% unmodified and I plan to keep it that way.
