checked my oil last night
and i had no oil. decided to pour a little more oil in to see where it was leaking and im missing the drain plug bolt! :[ umm where could i buy one of these?
i checked my oil around 5 and i still had a good amount of oil( more than half full on the dipstick) and i went to a friends house and when i was turning on my car after i left i got the buzzer. checked my coolant level cause i thought thats what the buzzer was for. coolant was fine. checked my oil and there was no oil.
wow that sucks man, lucky you caught it before it really messed something up!! I couldn't find what size bolt that is in the FSM, but i imagine you could get one at the Mazda dealer....
I think Pineapple Racing sells them. How far did you drive without oil? I hav heard tale of people running the motors for like 20-30 minutes without oil under typical driving conditions before the engine would sieze up. Thats just crazy.

Very good idea. I always use a magnetic bolt or will put a magnet inside the oil pan after a rebuild. You might be surprised how much shavings will collect over time. I'd rather have those metal shavings stuck to a magnet than circulating through the oiling system.
The oil pan takes a popular sized plug. You should have no problem finding it at any of your local autoparts stores. I believe it is 14mmx1.5 which is common to domestics and imports.
The extended drainplugs with magnets never fit my '91 pan. It would always bump into something. Use a plug with a flat, short, or no magnet at all.
Am I the only one that glances at my parking space to see what my Rx7 has left behind? Be aware of puddles.
I would buy the new plug, refill the oil, change the filter, drive for a few miles for rinse, and then change the oil/filter again. ANY time driving with oil 0-PSI would drastically increase wear that is now floating around in the engine.
Do you have a working oil PSI gauge?
Who did your oil change?
Sabotage or oil change incompetence cause drainplug problems. Sabotage is rare unless you have enemies and **** people off.

At every oil change I use a brand new crush washer and tighten the drain plug to the torque specifications listed in the Haynes manual. And I thought I was paranoid (okay, maybe I am). I even have a couple spare drain plugs, in case my old one gets chewed up. So far I've just replaced it once, since it was pretty chewed up when I bought the car.
I went online a while back and got a good bulk deal on drain plugs, crush washers, and Nippon (OEM) oil filters. I think it was $30-$40 shipped, and now I'm set for the next 90,000 miles. I have enough crush washers for 10 RX-7's' lifetimes but hey, the bag was just a couple bucks. If anyone wants a few for free, just go to some RX-7 get-together and ask me. I always keep them in a ziploc in my car.
