Check for blown motor?

Hi, a couple weeks ago i made a post about an s5 with no key asking if i should buy it. I found out more about the car. A guy that owns a towing yard owns it and is wanting 1000 for it but i think i could tak him down. turns out it does have the key, has 90k miles or so on N/A he doesnt know if it runs, but we got to look under the hood this time. No radiator cap was on, hoping that somone took it off for another car or something. no battery either. Im wondering if there are some ways to test the eninge before i buy it, what i was thinking is fill up the radiator, get a battery and test it for compression and see if it holds the coolent, any advice?

Buying guides! From the FAQ.

RotaryResurrection.com has compression test info in the Tech section.

Good luck with it!
