Cheap but effective mods to make an NA faster?

What are some cheap but effective mods to make an NA FC faster? ECU, exhaust, headers, what? I want to know because I might be getting a '91 GXL, and I'm on a fairly tight budget, so I'd like to know the most cost-effective mods.

Full exhaust (will be loud) not expensive though. Home made Cold air intake with a cold air box. Removing stuff, such as air conditioning, power steering, belt driven fan... Those are all pretty cheap. Plus weight reduction never hurt anyone

The biggest bang for the buck - weight reduction.

The 2nd biggest single bang for the buck - an exhaust header.

3rd - a ram air/cold air intake.

4th - full flow exhaust.

5th - a freestanding computer & loose the AFM.

Okay, looks like if I do get a FC it will be an '88 GXL. Will any of your intake kits fit that?

Another thing, what can I do to remove weight, and is it easy?

And finally, what the **** is an AFM?

Yeah, from what i understand the AFM is extreamly restrictive on our N/A Rx-7s All that air trying to come thru a little silver box?!?! Get a stand alone unit, maybe even an ITB setup and you'll be in good shape

Expect to spend roughly 12-1300 for a setup like this.

Yes our intake is a direct bolt on with only MINOR trimming of the radiator bracket. YOu can remove the A/c, power steering, smog stuff(if you have no emmissions laws), some other stuff that I have forgotten already.

The AFM and other accronims sp? can be found in the FAQ thread at the top of this page.
