Chatter noise when steering

Before I begin I want to let everyone know that I searched for this topic before I posted this, although, if this subject is covered in a part of the forum that I missed, please be nice.

Anyway, when it is cold outside, when I turn the steering wheel, I hear what can best be described as a "chatter" noise. It only occurs when it is cold outside. I thought that it might be something with the steering rack, but I would think that if this were the case, it would make the noise constantly; not just in the cold. Another explination I came up with is maybe something in the strut(s) is making the "chatter".

I would appreciate any help with this.

If I can be more detailed about my problem, just ask.

Thanks

Might be your front upper strut mounts...
There's a bearing in there that spins when you turn the wheel (which spin the strut itself).

If you have power steering, check your fluid. If this doesn't fix it, your upper strut mounts are probably shot and will need to be replaced. I had to do it last year at around this time.

Yes, I have power steering and that seems to be fine. I think I'm going to check the upper strut mounts.

Thanks for the help guys (and/or gals)!
