Are you changing just the shift **** or the shift lever?

The shift **** can be removed by loosening the lock nut at the bottom of the shift **** - yes, that shiny thing is a jam nut.&nbsp Once you get the loosened, the shift **** should screw right out.

If you want to remove the entire shift lever, it's a little more involved.

You REALLY need to buy a copy of the Haynes manual and learn more about your car before you do too many mods. I'd hate to see you do something you'll regret later because you didn't have a very inexpensive book to give you the info you need.

That boot has a goofy attachment to the console. Be careful with it or you'll break all the little plastic tabs.

call mazda or mazdatrix for a replacement boot attached tothe piece of plastic its the easiest way to get a new one on right .trust me i tried going the cheap route.

and just twist the **** counter clockwise to get it off then spin the set ring under it off hte same way.
