Ignition removal

I just did that to a car I bought w/o keys.

1. You take the trim off around the ignition (4 screws from the bottom).

2. There are about 4-6 wires coming from the ignition, running along the steering column towards the engine bay that must be unplugged.

3. There are two screws that look like rivits on each side of the steering column. They have no slots for screwing out. I took my dremel and cut slots in each for screwing and then simply screw them out.

Pretty easy job. Do you have an ignition that you are putting in?

he means the key cylinder, not the ignition. I just changed one on my GMC Jimmy, and all I had to do was pull the steering wheel and undo a screw that held it in place into the igniotin..

hey thanks...thats a good idea. ill just make my own screws out of them. was it hard to line it back up afterwards? im assumeing it had to be pretty tight when you put the new one on.

Once you pull it out, you'll see how easy it is to line up the new one.. the woodruff key that pops up to stop the wheel from moving (with no key in it), will help you line it up perfectly.
