what is that center console made of?
it doesn't seem to like being painted, i wish it was hard plastic like everything else, but it seems to be some weird kind of rubbery material. can anyone help?

You may consider getting the center surround from an 86-88 vehicle. Those are hard plastic and can be prepped for paint far more easily than the flexible version that was used on th 89-91 cars.
