CD Player and Audio System

Well i recently went to Panama City for spring break and on the drive back noticed static coming out of the left speakers. It only occured when playing a cd and just periodically. I dont know if the amp or the player was just getting hot or what from playing it for so long. But now it cuts in and out every now and then. The radio will play perfectly fine regardless. I believe its the head unit. Do anyone have any idea? Also if it is the headunit what will i have to do to replace it, will i need to by pass any of the factory cross overs or amps? whats the best fix for this? i still have the oem player in it, but all the speakers have been replaced with better after market ones. This is in the 1988 Convertible RX7 of mine and by the way the head rest speakers quit in both seats not too long ago, i think it might be something besides the wiring in the actual seats that has cause a problem, any way of making the new head unit power them?
