about the best pic i have right now is this one
http://www.geocities.com/njrhea/Box-Back.jpg
if the link doesn't work, click on it again, put a space before the web addy and hit enter. You can trace the brass check valve back to a metal one, then a hose makes a 90° angle to the metal branch you were talking about

just found another pic
http://www.geocities.com/njrhea/MyTII/TID_BOV.jpg
that shows where it connects to the branch better.
An aftermarket BOV shouldn't be hard to install if you get a kit. I've heard that some BOVs will fit the stock hose, but i'm not sure if you wanted it dangling off a hose. If you wanted to do the DIY mod, which alot of people swear against, then you just need a Check Valve like the one in my pic, and a hose to fit it. Then get a threaded nipple to fit the hose and check valve together and you're done. Mine still let a little vacuum leak, so I just tightened the spring a little. good luck
