CB & Scanner Question

Has anyone used the stock AM/FM antenna for a CB and/or scanner. I'm waitng to buy a new radio, so I've got my CB plugged into the stock antenna, but I'm not picking anything up. I'm sure its something to do with the SWR, but I've no idea what to do about it. I'd like to avoid adding antennae to my car, but I want the CB for long drives across cellphone less country, and the scanner so I know to slow down before my radar detector tells me its too late. Thanks guys.

You would need a spliter for the antenna, but your reception will be considerably reduced no matter what. I thought radio shack might still have them in their catalog, but if not try some of the CB online/internet stores.

There used to be a power antenna by Harada that was an AM/FM/CB, and while it was not a good as a dedicated CB antenna it often was passible for the casual CB user. You may wish to check with your local car stereo shop to see if they can order it for you.

The third method would be to use a pager spliter. Since automotive pagers operate around 25.7, you could in therory use one of those from auto page or alpine. The draw back is that they are limited to 4 watts max output, and the radio will loose all AM reception.

By splitter, are you talking about an electronic piece, or just a T-adapter?

No the splitter actually routes the CB freq to the CB and everything else to the AM/FM

I just bought an aftermarket and put in on the hatch latch. worked awesome. Much better than digging in to the wiring of the old rx7, IMO
