cats getting red

ok my car sat for 10 years before i got it the cats get red hot when it runs is that just the cats are clogged if so can i just hollow them or will it be to loud with afrtermarket mufflers

You can probably hollow them but I'd reccomend some aftermarket like a presilencer set to go from the manifold to the y. I've got RB cat replacement set and I'm happy with it.
