catalytic converter question

with a stock replacement converter do i need the airpump to actuate the 5th and 6th ports on my 88 SE or do i just need the converter? also to keep the converter from failing do i need an air pump-mine is currently removed

don't need airpump for 6 ports or to keep the cat from failing. however you'd need it for emmissions testing. the cat alone isn't nearly good enough for that.
