cat. converts need them or not
I was just wondering if takeing the cat coverts off a rotory motor would make a difference? Like would it help out exhaust flow or would it be bad for the motor, liek having less backpressure. Cause i know of piston motors you can take the cat off and it frees up some power.

Yeah, you can take the converters off and it will help with exhaust flow. You only need backpressure if you have a series 4 and want your 5th and 6th ports to actuate properly. But, I believe that in Virginia you have to pass a visual inspection. Having a straight pipe will not pass visual inspection to my knowledge.

Yes, you have an 86 GXL which is naturally aspirated. From 1986-1988, those 6-port engines used the exhaust backpressure to actuate the 5th and 6th ports.
Removing the cats might cause them to not function anymore. I say might because I removed my cats, installed a race pipe, still retained the stock cat-back and they still do actuate properly. It is kind of hit or miss. If you want to make sure they will work properly and still take the cats off, use the search function and search for something like "electronic 5th and 6th ports" or "electronic solenoid." Stuff along that line.
People have found various ways to get around actuating the ports without backpressure. The information is here, just search for it.
