The case of the missing coolant, and a fuel switch Question

Ok, I keep getting the low coolant buzzer coming on even when the car isnt started, I topped it off, and its still like this, i cant start it since the flywheel is off, but its doing this intermittently ever since i first started the car last november.

There are no leaks, the resovoir is full, and there is no gas smell in the coolant, it does not shoot out when you crank the car. I smell no coolant burning and the smoke was not white when I drove the car. Where is it going, where did it go? Am I missing something, should I go over something again.

Also, I wanted to hook a fuel cut off switch to one of the EGI fuses, but which one should I do it on?

Also, I have 2 red wires I think, think they were red, cut, coming from my tranny, where do these go? I dont know which ones those are.

Search for coolant seal check in the archives....but how much coolat are you losing anyways?

Take off all 3 caps to the cooling system. pour coolant into the filler cap that isn't the radiator or the resevoir, till it starts coming out of the radiator. put the radiator cap on, then fill that same cap till it's about full. put that cap back on. fill the resevoir. the end.

It works on my car, when my coolant gets low, after I just added to the resevoir, and the buzzer is still going off.

Have you checked the oil level? The buzzer sounds if oil is low too. You haven't mentioned which corresponding warning light comes on when the buzzer sounds. If the radiator (not overflow bottle) is full and the oil level is above the dipstick's LOW mark, then read the section in the FSM Body Electrical chapter about testing the warning system to make sure it's working properly.

There are plenty of easier ways of doing that other than running wires all the way out to the engine bay fuse box. The easiest is to put a switch in the fuel pump power line at the circuit opening relay under the dash (search for the many threads on this)

The neutral switch wires are green/black and black; the combined 5th/reverse switch wires are black/yellow and red/green (reverse); black/blue and black (5th). Those are the only stock wires on the gearbox.

If you want to do it properly, that's not the end. Firstly it's important to make sure the heater valve is fully open by putting the temp slider in the HOT position with the ignition on. If you have an S4 you also need to leave the radiator bleed plug open until it overflows. Once you've filled the engine as you describe (but not quite to the top) you need to start the engine and let it idle until the thermostat has opened and you can see no more bubbles appearing in the filler. Then you can top it off and replace the cap.

The two red wires coming from the tranny are the reverse lights. one is the feed and the other is the return. It doesnt matter which one you hook it to it will work either way. I have the same thing on my car.
