car's having hard time starting, IF it starts

My 86 isn't starting up.

When I turn the ignition, it sounds like it wants to start, but wont.

I can't tell if it's the starter, or the battery. Sometimes it wont even make that griding sound when I turn the key.

I'm running out of time. I need to get this car to a mechanic, get it fully tuned up, then to the DMV to register it by this Saturday. Otherwise, I'll get fined. And I don't even know if I have the money to register it.

Make sure your battery is fully charged.

When you say "it WANTS to start" does it sputter, fire once then die???......

Could be flooded.

Did it EVER run?!
