I have a steel hood and I believe it weighs 54 lbs. I wouldnt mind having a CF hood but my car is red and would look like *** with a CF hood. Fiberglass would be the alternative for me because it is cheaper and pretty much the same weight. My only concern is how FG would hold up in an front end accident compared to CF.

Any insight on this?

what kind of front end accident are you talking about? one where the engine is now in the trunk? i dont think any hood will hold up...

well, i did a really ruff estimate i think it would be around $1000. remeber this is a RUFF estimate. The hood would be all CF with a honeycomb core in very good epoxy resin and vacuum bagged. the cool thing about the honeycomb core is that the underside of the hood would be totally flat, none of that ribbing or triange bracing. and stupid me! i could take a mold of my hood even with the dent. I would just fill it in on the mold!

i dont think i could do a kevlar hood good. Even though its cheaper then CF i havent worked with it and from what i hear it pretty hard to cut. You need special shears that i dont have. And even then, you can get a frayed edge because the material is so tuff.

wow! a grand, i figured it would be that much, man i would so be interested in that, but there are a couple of other things ahead of me getting my hood replaced. its not on the top of my list at the moment. id rather get my street ported TII motor first, then ill get the hood, ha

but about the kevlar hood, any company make them? im still kinda interested in that.

Id go with CF. Its cheap and i just have better luck with it.

I agree though, the entire hood would have to be CF, none of that overlay crap

you know, ill see if i can get around to take a mold of my hood. and from there, i can pretty much cover it with anything.

one of the reasons its so expensive is because the supplier i found that has a 60" wide fiber that is needed is a rip off. another thing is because its going to be vacuum bagged. This in general take a lot of time to set up and do, but is so much worth it because the end product is so great. vacuum bagging also raises the cost of the mold, since i have to make it strong enough to withstand the forces of the vac.

i love CF personally, i wanted to get the insside dash redone in CF. something a lil more rounded, dont care too much for the old boxy design, ha. anyways, now that CF is getting as big as it is, i dont want to seem like some poser like everyone else. so i might get the dash done in fiberglass and get it painted or soemthing. but lets say if i wasnted a dash made, about how much do u think it would cost. id just want the edges rounded out a bit.

I like how on the website it says stock replacement hood just drop it in... Not only did my freind waste the money on a FC3s.org hood, he had to pay an additional 200 bux to get it fitted on. Maybe there measurements were off, or what not.. I dont know, and the weave was not that great sorry but for 600 bux I want it to be perfect, which it was DEFF not. If you want a real way to determine the outcome of yourdecision, do you want soemthing that looks pretty and stands out... or do you want something that will look stock and weigh jsut as much

Who are you and who is your friend? No one has mentioned anything about having to have their hood "fitted", so I think you are frankly full of **** friend. Our measurements are off? That's why there are over 45 hoods out there and yours is the mystery "doesn't fit" one huh? All off the same tools, all off the same jig, but the other 44 cars are wrong and were just lucky, and your buddy's car was right and we were off??

For $600 you want a perfect CF hood huh? Show me one that has no stray fibers. Have you ever seen any other CF hoods or are you just flapping your lips? Show me another CF hood out there that is in the US, show me ONE. That AWR hood is horrible, crooked and the fit is off. Tony (AWR) and Craig (my partner) and I have been trying to get it worked out so he can have all his parts made with our CF/FG guy.

Next time try not to slander people. Just because I don't post here (gee I wonder why) doesn't mean I don't read some posts from other people. Especially when I get 10-15 emails saying that some idiot is "flaming" me on the forum.

And you guys wonder why others don't make **** for the FC anymore? Too many **** talking kids.

HAHA, damn fc3s.org, u just went off on him. while it was quite humurous and you straightened out the facts about your CF hood, it was quite unproffesional and rude, even if he had some problems with the hood and posted his experience with it IMO. the only way i would spend that reasonably asked amount for your CF hood, is if i would see it in person, or very detailed pics online. just like i would with any other company.

Psychoblue23, maybe your friends cars frame was messed up and that why it didnt fit, and im sorry but if your friend spent 200 bucks to get it to fit right, you got ripped off. i know theres no way it would cost $200 to get a CF hood fitted, unless he did some very unnecesary work. i know about auto collision and soon will be goin to school for it, so i know what im talking about for the most part.

It might have been rude, and that was the way it was meant to be. I am tired of people here spouting their mouths off about things that they really have no idea about. I let alot of things slide when they are said about either me or something we have made on this forum since there are quite a few people that defend us (and others in the same situation), but I will not just let someone slander the work we have done for no reason.

Alot of people won't buy them until they have seen them, but since there are quite a few roaming around the country now people are seeing them and buying more. We had to make another mold for the TII hood so we could keep up with production.

We are also coming out with radiator panels this week, carbon fiber sunroof replacements, fenders, spoilers, reverse scoop hoods...and alot of other things, but I can't really promote that or go into details here as it constitutes advertising and I would have to pay for that LOL. I'll just rely on word of mouth since it has worked ok for over 5 years now.

Actually, I am going back into retirement from this "forum" I should have just ignored the ignorance, as I have been for some time now...

Later all...

Fear not! Dave will be sending me my FG hood here in the next couple days. And yes, I will take pictures of it installed and such so that you all can lay your worries to rest. Even in the slight chance that the hood is off a bit or there is some other problem, I know for sure Dave will do everything he can to take care of it.....but again, I am sure it will fit just fine.

i would deffinately be interested in all those carbon fiber goodies, i can never get too much CF.

fc3s.org, would you guys be interested in makin full CF doors, cause i would buy those in a heartbeat. doors are heavy, and having them CF would deffinately lighten the FC. hey keep the good products coming, i will be checkin your site frequently from now on to see what you all have.
