Carbon Fiber Decklid for Vert for Fazzt73

I ordered a carbon fiber decklid for my convertible from Fazzt73 in April 2010. I received it a short while later. It had been poorly packed and was smashed around the edges. I contacted Paolo and he promised to replace the decklid. After several comminications, in October, I offered to pay an additional $50 if I received the decklid within 10 days. I received the decklid shortly thereafter.

Unfortunately, I just didn't have the time to install the decklid for several months. When I finally got around to it, I discovered that the fasteners were completely different. The original decklid has threaded posts and bolts which cannot be replicated in carbon fiber. You can't re-use the original fasteners. The holes are, for the most part, pre-drilled and tapped. There are a couple of holes missing, but they are inconsequential. They are not metric. I purchased about $10 worth of fasteners at home depot. However, the holes for the latch were not pre-drilled. I'm not super handy man, so it took me several weeks to build up the courage to drill and tap the holes. I installed the decklid today. It went on easily.

From twenty feet away, it looks pretty good. Close up, it came with two small scratches and three pin ***** holes in the resin. In the right light, you can see a few dimples. The gap is a little bit larger than the OEM. The front of the lid bows up so that there is a gap so large that I'm afraid the weather stripping won't seal it. Being a convertible, I don't take the car out in the rain anyway.

I didn't weigh the different lids, but the carbon fiber lid is substantially lighter than the OEM steel lid. With a convertible, every ounce adds up.

I've never purchased a carbon fiber product before, so I can't compare, but, while not perfect, I'm going to keep it on the car. That speaks for itself.

I think it looks really good! The could be smaller but 99% of the people who see your car won't notice.

Those aren't the worst gaps I've ever seen and thought were 'acceptable'

See the thing is if you want to run unpainted CF parts then normally people expect to see crappy fitment. Non-OE body parts are infamous for needing body work to look perfect ... which you can't really do with unpainted CF.

I've seen magazine cars with CF fenders, bumper, and hood and there were gaps as big as a deck of cards!
