Car wont start after water pump change

Hello, I have a 91 rx7 non turbo 5spd. Heres the deal.,.i bought the car from my brother. he didnt take care of it...when i got the car it was runing but had a water pump leak and was missing every belt but the alternator water pump belt. so i tore the car done to replace the water pump gaskets. i put all the belts back , air pump. power steering, ac... ..now the car wont start and while its trying to start white smoke is coming from the muffler and it smells funny. like not like gasonline...So any ideas why its not starting up anymore? thanks

Sounds like a blown coolant seal. Go to autozone and rent a coolant pressure tester.

You can't throw the timing off by turning the pulleys. The only way you can adjust it is by removing the CAS and rotating it. So don't worry about timing, it should be unchanged.

You can do the flood clear procedure to check if it's just flooded. You can also remove the radiator cap while cranking the engine over and look for air bubbles. Bubbles would confirm blown coolant seals.

Ok so i fixed the problem.....car was flooded, so i removed the spark plugs and cleaned them and thurned the car over with the plugs out till there was no more white smoke coming out ,put the spark back in and reconnected the fuel pump..and the car started right up....but now i have no brakes . so now i have to fix that.
