Car wont start

Ok so I tried starting my car a few days ago, it started then immediately died. I then proceeded to attempt to start the vehicle (1988 GXL Auto) again. This time instead of having the normal starter engaging sound, it sounded accelerated. So think of starting the car without the EGi fuse, then think of that sound about 2x the speed. I searched/posted and thought it was my starter, but a friend said my starter was fine and that it was most likely severly flooded. So I took out the EGI fuse and cranked it for a few time at WOT to try and remove the excess fluids/stuff from the engine. No go same sound. Took out the spark plugs and cranked it to try and remove the crap that way... put back in new spark plugs and then tried it... no go again, any thoughts?

Pull the leading (lower) plugs and squirt some ATF in them, put the plugs back and try to start it. When you flood a rotary, you lose compression, thats why it spins faster but won't fire.

Were the plugs wet?

Sometimes it takes several de-flooding steps to get her going again, especially if it's cold and wet outside...
