Car weaves on it's own at speed?!? HELP PLEASE!

So...
heading to work today the RX7 thought it would be really fun to start weaving on it's own @ 60mph
pulled it over. started driving again. it starts to weave at around 20mph and gets worse the faster I go. I still have steering control for the most part. I was able to drive half a mile really slow and get turned around on a side road where I had a flatbed pick me up.

I'm really glad I pay that $2/month for Progressive's roadside assistance.

Right now the car's sitting in my garage waiting to be inspected by my amature ***.

Anybody have any idea what would cause this??

get an alignment? check your tires for unusual wear

Just check over the entire suspension/steering system. Control arms, tie rods, upper and lower mounts, sway bar bushings/ eng links, springs and struts, etc.

You're gonna be looking for anything bent, or distorted in anyway. Like someone else said, check your tires for unusual wear. If something seems odd on only one tire, well... it would seem like a good idea to check everything over in that area of the car.

yea I still ahve to get it in the air and check everything out.

it started happening all at one time. just BAM car started to head to the WRONG lane.
I can't tell if it's the rear end or the front end not cooperating.

"bad rear steer bushings"
FC's have all wheel steering? or am I interpreting that wrong?

I should also note, this started happening about 1,000yards after a left turn. the back end slipped on some paint and grabbed hard on the dry pavement... gave it a little jolt.

all 4's appear to be aiming the right direction. lol

o man. I hate working on my car in the cold! especially wheels/suspension ****.

I'll keep you all updated.

If the problem is sudden and severe (and it sounds like it is), I'd be looking for something broken, as opposed to something worn. A tie rod, for example.

Edit: You should also look at your hub assembly and its mounting, and even check that your lug nuts are all tight. From the description of your problem, it seems more likely that the problem is going to be in the front suspension/steering, than something in the rear suspension. A good first check is to jack it up and give each front wheel a good shake.

I think mine has the same problem also because I just got an alignment and balancing on all tires and something is still making it not drive perfect.

My next move is some new tires because one on the driver side in the back keeps losing air ; went from 34 psi to 20 psi , which may because causing the problem or adding to it.

Thats not the reason I need new tires though, my tires have cracks from dryrot or whatever so I dont feel safe riding on them for too much longer.

**** man let us know when you find out whats wrong.

But i agree that since it happened suddenly its probably something broken, or maybe disconnected.

those rear steer bushings only change toe a few degrees. I find it unlikely that it would make the whole car pull really hard in one direction.

alright. I got all four up and checked around... I DONT SEE A SINGLE THING WRONG!
i kicked and cranked on all the wheels and they are stay where they're supposed to (and im a big guy so i have alot of weight to throw around) I got a ton of pictures I will throw up here... I pretty much know diddly about suspension components but nothing is cracked, bent, broken, or missing that I can see.

I'm going to search here quick, but anybody know the best spot to jack the front of the car up witha floor jack? i need to get the front two off the ground.

The crossmember works really well for jacking it up.

My car has dtss eliminators, but the alignment in the rear driver side looks to be off and the suspension appears to be lower on that side as well (not even with other side).

Its just a few things I'll have to fix aside from the other stupid problems my car has, but it runs good so I dont worry much about anything breaking only worrying about the simple problems getting worse but they havent.
