Car suddenly wont start
This mornin on my way to work the car(87 TII) started wanting to stall when i took off from a start and then started bucking and had no power. I was like wtf???
I thought maybe the alternator was gone cuz that happened to my stang b4. Well turns out the belt broke somewhere along the way to work. Well, i replaced the belt and now the car wont do anything. Wont turn over at all and my interor lights and guages wont work. I was charging the battery while my wife was getting me a belt. This ever happen to any of yall? Have i blown a fusible link or fuse? Does this sound like the ignition switch has gone out? My windows are also stuck down now.....so there is a tarp over them. Is there a fuse in the underhood fuse box that controls ignition and inside lights? I am totally lost. To begine with the interior wiring was jacked up when i bought it. Ive only had it 4 about a month. I got the car in N.C. and drove it all the way back down here with no problems. I am probably gonna sell the car once i get it running again. I really dont have the time or patience to deal with fixing all the little things wrong with it. Could somebody please help. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys.

best thing to do is take a battery out of a car that you know is good and put it in and see if it starts.

I did a quick check of the inside fuses....ill recheck them. Is there a way to check the underhood fuses? Can someone give me a link to the fuse layout diagram as my car didnt have the cover when i bought it. Also, can someone tell me if there is a website that has the layout of fusible links and what each major underhood fuse does? I appreciate all yalls help. O btw, what did you mean by using a compatible battery man?

Something Stupid to check
Had the same problem and in a moment of clarity I thought about the neutral safety switch. If you have a manual, the clutch has to be engaged for the starter to work. Ergo, all the lights on the dash come on yada yada turn the key and poof... Nada. The neutral saftey switch can either be replaced or removed. If you look at the top of the clutch pedal you will see a wire running to it. Sometimes you can just dink with it while turning the ignition to the start position and she will catch. Hope that helps...

My money's on the fuses. to check your under-hood fuses, get a continuity meter. all you need to do is make sure that the fuse is intact, so touch one probe to one blade on the fuse and the other probe to the other one. This will let you know if they are good or not. Something else--and this may sound stupid, but check all your wiring. Check the battery wires and so on--make sure they are all tight and in good shape. You never know when a simple ground wire problem could do you in, and a faulty ground would look exactly like this. How old are your battery cables?
