car starts then dies

was trying to clean the engine bay area.. since it looked dirty like crap.. took some things out to clean since i just bought it.. but when i tried to take off the afm.. the wire was loose and i didn't notice till it was too late.. that it came out a little and it came off of the plug.. and when i put it back in .. and it wont start now.. but i bought a new one.. and the same thing happened... but it would start for a little like about 5 seconds.. then it would just die.. it would stay on if i gas it up.. but once i let go it will just die on me... i tried to solder the old afm back .. and it would be the same thing.. it would turn on for a few seconds and die on me.. now i dont konw what to do.. if its the afm then i have replaced it and soldered back the old one.. so now i got two afm.. and both of them is the same.. starts for about 5 seconds and die.. please can anyone help me?? i really don't know what to do.. could the motor be flooded? cause i heard that 88 rx7 TII floods easy.. and how would i be able to fix it if it is? =(

doesn't sound flooded cause it is starting. If you have a "bad" air flow meter put it all back together and there will be a code in the computer. Pull the code. You can find out how in the FSM- Section = Fuel and emissions. Heres the link to Sticky's FAQ. Scroll down to the MANUAL AND LINKS section:

if you can rev up the engine after starting, then its probably not a vacuum leak unless its huge. if it just starts up and dies despite the throttle input, i'd check the AFM and wiring again. grab a DMM and check the wiring - maybe the wire broke inside or something.
