car shuts off

hi i am trying to figure out why my car shuts off. when the car shuts off while running the warning lights turn off, but the interior lights work and if i wait about 40 minutes the car starts up like normal. i figuring it must be a relay that is getting hot and until it cools down, won't let any power flow thru when i turn the key. can anyone tell me where the relay is locate at in the car. thanks

Relays get hot- that's what they do in normal operation. Although it's a slim possibility it could be the main relay, on the driver's side, near the trailing coil pack...

Can you "jiggle" your ignition switch with the key in and cause this problem?

Have you accessed & cleaned up your rear rotor housing ground lately? Under the UIM...

that relay by the driver strut tower was check and it works fine. my igniton switch was also check. the ground for the engine was replace a while ago with 2 gauge. the ground for the driver strut tower and right above the starter was change to 2 gauge. the wire for the starter and alternator were also change to 2 gauge. this has happen to me the last 8 times i have taken the car out for ride. lucky for me it has never happen to me while on the highway. it always happens while waiting to meet a friend. but yet when i leave it with the mechanic it never happens to him.

I have to rant here just a little and tell you that 2 gauge wire is going way overboard, but it's your car....

Man, it could be lots of things, CAS plug loose, an ECU plug loose, etc... Just start checking EVERY plug and electrical connection in the engine bay & ECU areas, including the grounds. That 2 gauge you put on the engine ground- where did you run it from/to?

hi i when with 2 gauge wire because of the sound system i have. i also upgrade the alternator to one that puts out 140 amps. i got tired of replacing the battery every year even thought the battery was under warranty. the engine ground goes from the back of the engine to the firewall. my mechanic check for a loose plug and couldn't find any. i guess the easiest solution is to replace the relays that have to do with engine after all they are 16 years old. l have never replace them and i have the car for 14 years. so i know they were never replace plus i know the first two owner. they had the car for one year each.

I had a connector in the wiring harness just fwd of the drivers side strut tower that was arcing internally. Car would just die like you had switched off the ignition. Later it would be OK. Took months to figure it out.
