car shut of in 3rd gear! now it won't start

I have a 90 turbo II with a rebuilt motor(5000) miles on it. So coming off a freeway ramp two blocks from my house it just died! ( no sputtering, smoking,) now the car won't start. I checked the main fuses and the egi fuse was blown, so I switched the 30amp fuse from the retractable lights and put it in the egi slot. I tried to start it again and the car turns over but won't start. checked the fuses again just in case I messed and put the wrong fuse in the wrong slot, now the good fuse I swaped in is blown.

I need some help here guys I've only had the car for 3 weeks and have had very little time to work on it.

ok so im a little confused as to what exactly went on and what fuse(s) you have handy

anyways.. REMOVE the EGI fuse and turn over the car for 3 or 4 seconds

REPLACE the EGI fuse and see if it will start

(likely wont start due to flooding)

this procedure will get the excess fuel outta the housings..

I dont think its flooded, because it cut off exiting from the freeway at 40 miles an hour. The car had been running for about 20min before it cut off. I've tried replacing the fuse and each time I crank it over it blows the egi fuse

you must have a short somewhere then

when the fuse blows thats why the engine would die.. so.. know anyone with a short-finder?

look for anything out of the ordinary under the hood..

were you doing something specific when it happened? has the car been rewired or had some rewiring done recently?

like I said i've only had the car 3 weeks, when I bought the car it was idling low, so I fixed that by adjusting the idle screw. I had to remove the intercooler to do that
but other than that not that I know of. a rebuilt engine was put in a few months ago, and the car did come with an aftermarket alarm system a clifford (my friend who installs car audio said it was a sloppy install) could this cause a short in the electrical system?

I would like to try to find the problem without checking every wire in the car, i.ve got to go to work in a few days

well i think its your only option.. its clearly an electrical problem

yes, it very well could be the alarm, if (by chance) it comes with a fuel cutoff for safety (which IS what the EGI does)

my brother had that in his sunbird.. (had lots of stereo equip) the alarm (when activated) would cutoff the starter power and the fuel pump..
