So i am installing a rebuilt engine... when i turn my key i hear ONE very audtible beep, follow by very faint beeps every 1 or 2 saconds; None of the warning lights come on, nor does the fuel gauge move up to 1/4 a tank like it did yesterday... when i turned the car to the on position to open the sun-roof.
even though the engine check lights wont turn on, i still can turn on my headlights and Af/boost guages as well as my interior lights, i have check all fuses and went threw and added grounds to the body and altinator.
when i had no engine in it at all i could still put the key in and get the lights to turn on and the windows to work and hear a coolant buzzer go off. and yesterday it would do the same...
i have an 88 TURBO with a 2 month old 700 CCA 850 AMp battery(fully charged cranks my other 7), fresh engine rebuild with emissions and removed blocked off, clean terminals..ect..
i am at work right now and wont have time to get to the car until tomorro, but maybe a fresh day will bring some relief.
is it posible for a connection on the immisions harness to stop the car from going into the ON position. other then that where should i start to look? Thanks Yall!

How long have you had the car? Where did you buy it from? Does it, or did it have, an alarm system/remote start/keyless entry?

I've seen some pretty strange stuff come from small used car dealers. For instance; they install some sort of starter cut system that will not allow you to drive unless you've paid your loan for that month. You go in, pay, and they reset it... You go in, find the relay box, and ground the wires... If you just bought the car and the salesman/previous owner didn't tell you about this 'special' feature you can be chasing your tail for hours (or days).

Alarms/keyless/remote starts usually have a starter cut relay. If you have some sort of system installed, something may have gone awry in the brain or it may have been poorly installed (season/temp change causes tolerances to change). Pull the fuses...problem solved.

You can try to smack the starter to see if the solenoid is sticking and double check your grounds w/a meter (resistance to ground). Other than that, check the simple/stupid stuff prior to throwing parts at your car.

i bough the car from a dealer and it dosent have anything pass a factory alarm, the problem isnt starting its going in to the on mode itself... i cant power the windows down or up just my headlights and guages work... i bough the car from a friend and it had no problems going into the on position for 8 months until i try and put the new rebuilt motor into it...

bad main fuse? check that out. do you get a click or anything when you turn it to on? idiot lights come on? theres a post around here somewhere about working the bugs out of a factory alarm.

the idiot light dont come on, nor does the car allow operation of windows and accessories. it did this once and i turned the headlights on and off then it went back to normal, then it started doing it again and wont go back to normal.

i am thinking its a short but i will check the main fuse and everything else, got a link to the factory alarm post, i cant find anything on it right now.

thanks again! it was the main fuse, but was soo dirty it looked ok :P car now turns on and cranks for the first time on all faces in 2 years!! :P ty all~!!
