car not handling like it used to..
car not handling like it used to..
In the last 3 weeks or so, I've noticed that my car seems a lot more sloppy in the turns.. I've felt the DTSS before, and this is what it feels like... only, it's happening a *LOT* more often, on less sharp turns.. very bizarre..
It's (i assume) the original stock suspension....with 140k miles on it, so i'm sure it's shot.. It's just that I'm sure it was shot a month ago as well, and now it feels different.
Perhaps related.. the last 3 weeks have been real cold here... and before that, it was still rather warm.. maybe the temperature change has something to do with it?
hm..second thought, I should prolly check my tire pressure also..
ideas?

yeah, i'd check your tire pressure...could be that with the change in temp...
also, does it make a "hummm" at all while cruising? could be worn wheel bearings. that would cause it to feel a little more loose

no, no hum per se...but i can't hear much over the exhaust anyway.. Is there any way I can check the bushings? Just look, and see if they're torn/ripped/disintegrated?

Jack the car and put both hands on opposite sides of the wheel.... either top and bottom or right and left. Now push with one hand and pull with the other. There should be no play at all. If you notice play in the wheel then the bearing is bad or the locknut is loose. Spin the wheel... it should rotate smoothly. If not, then the caliper is hanging up or the bearing is bad. Hope this helps.

On the rear. jack it up but not only grab the top and bottom, grab the front and rear and pull with one hand and push with the other. Thats how I found a bad lateral link. No slop allowed. Zip.

ok that rear wheel steer thing... is it that much of a benifit? or does it just get in the way? I find it unpredictable, but mine is probably messed up anyway so I wouldn't know it in its 'full glory.' so is it worth it or not?
