Car not going into 5th gear.. help!

So yesterday morning my car decided not to want to go into 5th gear anymore.. not even when the car is off, it dont grind or anything, it just dont go in period, like there is nothing there... Its gone into gear like twice all day, but only when the car was off and parked. This sucks.. would it be a 5th gear syncro thats out? Or is there another fix for this? Whats the average cost to fix it?

btw, the car is an 88 TurboII

when you try to put it into 5th does the shifter come back to neutral? my tranny is similar. I've pretty much lost all of 5th and every once n a while I have to play with the shifter to get it into reverse. when I'm driving 5th is rarely ever there. I think the only way I can have any success in getting it to 5th is when I'm going rather slow like 45 or 50 mph. in may just be the synchronizer on its way out.

well, it used to grind in 5th every now and then, but not very often. It wont go into gear at all while the car is on or moving. When off, its only been into geat twice in 2 days. It just doesnt do anything for 5th gear.

Does it go on the reverse easily? If not it could be your shift fork.

if the shift fork was stuck you wouldnt have reverse either, if it is indeed bent, that could very well be the problem -letting you into reverse and not 5th- they are on the same shaft.

im thinking its more likely a bent shift fork, i know when a syncro is bad, it grinds, and grinds til it dies.. this bitch just stopped working..
