car misfires dies wont start

My car is an 86 base with an 87 engine just installed. I think i have an injector problem as ive heard but i need to know any other ideas. I drove my car for a mile after i got everything hooked back up but it was misfiring so much that i had to go full throttle for it to go and it did redline and all that but i got to 4th gear and it cut off. Everything was still on but the rpms died. I tried to push start my car all the way to 50mph but it didnt work i could hear the engine but it just didnt want to go. So I know my ignition is working spark is there there is a strong fuel smell but it seems that when i step on the gas that its not responding. I de-flooded it taking out the spark plugs and etc. and it still didnt do anything even when i push started it this time. What is wrong please help -Gabe

The first thing I would check is compression, just to make sure that all the flooding fix has done its work. If you still do not have compression, do the flooding fix again.

Next, I would beg, borrow or still a fuel pressure test guage kit. I would tee into the supply line (closest to firewall), and short the fuel pump connector on the passenger side of the engine compartment near the strut tower (2-wire connector). Turn on the ignition (do not start), and fuel pressure should be close to 40 psi. If it is not, fix the problem (Bad Relay? Bad fuel pump? Wiring problem?). If this is ok, I would pull the jumper and watch the pressure. If it drops off very quickly, you most likely have severe injector leaking problems. If it holds, try starting the car. If it does not start, did the pressure hold at 39 psi when cranking? If not, fix the problem. If ok, fuel system is ok.

I would then do a timing check. When cranking the engine, the yellow mark should illuminate when the light is attached to either leading ignition wire (front coil). If it does not, it is either out of time (adjust crank angle sensor), or the sensor was not inserted correctly. Fix the problem. Check the spark plugs. Replace if severely fouled.

If all the above is done, the car should start. Good luck!

A probable burnt fuel pump... When switching engines some *** switched my fuel lines to the motor so the return was going into the fuel filter and so on. I havent checked anything yet but plan to start tonite. -Gabe
